Hollywood stars, journalists, and the digital media elite are paying tribute to New York Times columnist David Carr, who died Thursday at age 58.

Carr, a beloved entertainment and business writer, was rushed to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Thursday after collapsing at the paper’s offices, The Times reported on its website.

“He was the finest media reporter of his generation, a remarkable and funny man who was one of the leaders of our newsroom,” said executive editor Dean Baquet in a memo to staff.

On Twitter, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper called Carr an “original,” while Huffington Post founder, Arianna Huffington, expressed her heartbreak calling Carr “a great journalist, but more important, great human being.” New York Times staff artist Sarah Booth also honored Carr on social media.
