Howard Stern’s Wife to Host First-Ever Kitten Bowl

Epic test of feline athletic prowess kicks off Feb. 2 on the Hallmark Channel

Beth Stern has found a new gig that seems just purr-fect for her.

Stern, the wife of radio giant Howard Stern and television personality in her own right, has signed on to emcee and host the Hallmark Channel’s inaugural Kitten Bowl, which is scheduled to air on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2.

The marathon event — running from noon to 9 p.m. — will also feature John Sterling, the radio voice of the New York Yankees, providing play-by-play commentary as as the assembled kittens perform their feats of athletic prowess.

Aside from being an exercise in pushing the envelope on fuzzy cuteness, the Kitten Bowl also has a charitable aspect: All of the kittens competing in the game — yes, even the ones that lose — will be granted a permanent home through Hallmark’s partnership with no-kill shelter North Shore Animal League America, an organization that Stern is affiliated with.

Billed as “the greatest feline showdown in cable television history,” the Kitten Bowl will consist of two preliminary playoffs and a championship match. Along with basic obstacle courses of hurdles, tunnels, hoops, jumps, weave poles, lasers, lures and toys on strings, the broadcast will feature clever locker room strategies, player profiles and “interviews,” and camera work and audio recordings from the athletes as they play the game. Cats made famous by YouTube videos and Instagram followings will provide specific analysis and color commentary.
