Idris Elba Drafts Children for War in New Trailer for ‘Beasts of No Nation’ (Video)

The Netflix original film will debut in chosen Landmark theaters, as well as worldwide on Netflix, on Oct. 16

The new trailer for “Beasts of No Nation” evokes sadness and terror as we watch Idris Elba‘s character, Commandant, take in Agu and train him in the ways of war.

Agu needs to reassess the meaning of family in the new trailer after his mother and father are killed and Commandant impresses him into his child army. However, this comes with deadly consequences.

“You are my family,” says Commandant. “Are you ready to fight?”

“Beasts of No Nation” is based on the highly-acclaimed novel by Nigerian author, Uzodinma Iweala. It is about Agu, a child soldier torn from his family to wage civil war in Africa. Newcomer Abraham Attah portrays Agu, while Elba’s Commandant is a warlord who conscripts him for battle in a warped portrayal of parenthood.

The Netflix original film, written and directed by Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga (“True Detective”), will debut in chosen Landmark theaters, as well as worldwide on Netflix, on Oct. 16.

Fukunaga’s film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and will screen at the Telluride Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival and the London Film Festival.

The film is produced by Amy Kaufman and Fukunaga, who previously worked together on “Sin Nombre.” Other producers include Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Riva Marker and Dan Crown for Red Crown Productions, along with Elba.

Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King are executive producing for Participant Media, while Donna Gigliotti is executive producing for Levantine Films. Elizabeth Koch and Kristina Kendall are executive producing for New Balloon, while Bill Benenson, Laura Bickford and Todd Courtney are also executive producers.
