Jeff Conaway Hospitalized and Comatose

Former star of “Grease” and “Taxi” actor in critical condition after apparent drug overdose

Former "Grease" and "Taxi" star Jeff Conaway is currently hospitalized and in a coma following an unspecified drug overdose, the actor's representative has confirmed to TheWrap.

Conaway was transported to Encino Hospital Medical Center last week, after being unconscious for some time.

According to the rep, the actor, 60, last exhibited a positive sign when he turned his head three days ago.

The actor, who played charismatic hoodlum Kenickie in the 1978 film "Grease" and, later, cabby/aspiring actor Bobby Wheeler on the television series "Taxi," has struggled with substance addiction for several years, appearing on "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew" in 2008.

In 2010, Conaway's girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, told the media that Conaway, despondent over his inability to shake his dependence on prescription drugs, expressed his desure to die at home.

"This is just devastating," Lizzi said at the time. "I tried to save him from himself by trying to get him help … He wants to die at home. He knows the meds are killing him. He can't get off them."

Conway suffered a serious fall at his California home in January 2010 that left him with a broken hip.

Phil Brock, of Studio Talent Group, which represents Conaway, told TheWrap, "We wish the best for Jeff; he's a great person with a great heart … We hope that he will recover and be able to exorcize the demons that have plagued him."
