Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly will co-star opposite Ewan McGregor in the upcoming adaptation of Philip Roth’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “American Pastoral,” which Phillip Noyce is directing for Lakeshore Entertainment.

“American Pastoral” follows Seymour “Swede” Levov (“McGregor), a legendary high school athlete, who grows up to marry a former beauty queen (Connelly) and inherits his father’s business. Swede’s seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter rebels by becoming a revolutionary and commits a deadly act of political terrorism during the Vietnam War.

John Romano (“The Lincoln Lawyer”) took on the monumental task of adapting Roth’s novel. Lakeshore CEO Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will produce the movie, which will start production in March in Pittsburgh.

“Jennifer Connelly is one of the great actresses of our time,” said Rosenberg. “We always wanted her to play Dawn in ‘American Pastoral’ and we’re thrilled to be working with her.”

Connelly won an Oscar for “A Beautiful Mind” and recently starred in Darren Aronofsky‘s “Noah.” She will next be seen in “Aloft” and “Shelter.” Connelly is represented by CAA and the Schiff Company.
