Jessica Lange will return to "American Horror Story" — but not as Constance Langdon.
Lange — who played delightfully cutting murderess Langdon on the first season of FX's Ryan Murphy/Brad Falchuk drama — has signed on for the series' upcoming second season. However, she will play an entirely different character.

In a move that caught many off-guard, Murphy and Falchuk killed off the first season's main characters, Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) and Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton), at the end of the first season. The couple had moved from the East Coast to Los Angeles in an effort to mend their marriage, and found more than they bargained for in their new home.
Shortly after the season one finale, Murphy and DX president John Landgraf announced that the next season would feature a new cast and characters, along with a new home.

"The next year of the show — every season of the show — will be a different haunting," Murphy said in December.
Murphy and Landgraf acknowledged at the time that some actors might return from the first season, but in different roles.
"None of the characters from season one will be regular characters in season two, nor will it take place in the same house, nor will it take place in the same state," Landgraf told TheWrap. "It won't take place in California."
Lange won multiple awards for her portrayal of Langdon last year, including a Golden Globe, SAG Award and Satellite Award.
