“Cold in July” director Jim Mickle will direct firefighter thriller “Esperanza” for Legendary Pictures, the company announced Tuesday.
Set against the backdrop of one of the most fire-prone areas in the world, “Esperanza” is the true story of a Spartan culture of firefighters battling the “perfect storm” of wildfires.
The film is based on the book by John N. Maclean and has a script by Sean O’Keefe. Legendary’s Alex Hedlund will oversee the project.
Mickle’s most recent credits include 2014 Cannes Director’s Fortnight premiere “Cold in July” and 2013 Sundance hit “We Are What We Are.” He is also the creator, co-writer, EP and director of “Hap and Leonard,” which was recently sold to SundanceTV set to premiere in 2016.
He is represented by WME, managed by Jeremy Platt and his attorneys are Sean Marks and Marios Rush.
