Joaquin Phoenix’s Twisted Yoga Injury Led to an Engagement (Video)

“Inherent Vice” star demonstrates the “vulnerable position” he found himself in on CBS’s “Late Show”

Joaquin Phoenix‘s story about his awkward yoga experience certainly had a surprise ending on CBS’s “Late Show” Monday night. The star of “Inherent Vice” not only told David Letterman about the move he learned called the “harnessing of the hog,” but he even demonstrated it.

He said that his yoga instructor threw him to the ground to put him in the position he described as “compromising and vulnerable,” looming over him, much as Letterman did during the demonstration.

Phoenix then said the instructor used a strap to pull him into an even more twisted position, until he complained about pain in his back. But she told him it was only “emotional back pain.”

“I don’t like people to talk about my emotional back pain,” Phoenix told Letterman. “It’s not cool at all.”

But the story ended with the most surprising twist of all. “We started dating,” Phoenix said. “And I think she’s the one. I proposed to her and she said yes.”

That means there are plenty more compromises to come in his future.

“Late Show with David Letterman” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
