John Hillerman, Emmy-Winning ‘Magnum, PI’ Actor, Dies at 84

Veteran TV actor also earned a Golden Globe for playing Higgins opposite Tom Selleck

John Hillerman, the Emmy-winning actor who played Higgins on “Magnum, P.I.,” died Thursday at age 84, a spokesperson for his family told TheWrap. He died of natural causes in his Houston home.

Hillerman was best known for starring as John Higgins opposite Tom Selleck on the CBS drama “Magnum, P.I.,” which ran from 1980 to 1988.

The role earned him five Golden Globe nominations, including a win in 1981, and four Emmy nominations, with a win in 1987.

The Denison, Texas had recurring roles on “One Day at a Time, “The Betty White Show,” “The Love Boat” and “The Hogan Family.”

He appeared in such films as “Chinatown,” “Blazing Saddles” and “A Very Brady Sequel.”
