First Peek at Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer in ‘The Lone Ranger’ (Trailer)

Armie Hammer stars as the titular masked man, while Johnny Depp plays his sidekick Tonto in "The Lone Ranger'

“The Lone Ranger” fans can get a glimpse of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in Gore Verbinski’s new film, with the release by Disney of the film's first trailer Wednesday.

This trailer offers little plot but plenty in terms of style, costumer and themes.

In the film, Hammer (“The Social Network,” “J. Edgar”) stars as the titular Ranger, while Depp plays his sidekick Tonto. Tonto narrates the story of the lawman turned masked vigilante.

The development of "The Lone Ranger" dates back about a decade when Columbia Pictures held the rights, and the project languished at Disney for several years as well. Jerry Bruckheimer and Verbinski eventually convinced studio brass after various stops and starts that they had the right take and a satisfactory budget.

The film is set to bow Jul 3, 2013.
