Jon Stewart Likens Sequester to Auto-Erotic Asphyxiation (Video)

Says lawmakers hoped "pressure would somehow heighten the sensation of getting something done"

"Daily Show" host Jon Stewart says the sequester is kind of like auto-erotic asphyxiation.

Stewart complained on Monday night's show that lawmakers couldn't even hit a budget deadline that they themselves imposed. Their failure resulted in widespread cuts in federal spending. (The Washington Post has a more thorough explanation.)

"It was like they tied a belt around their neck and then looped it over the shower curtain in the hopes that this pressure would somehow heighten the sensation of getting something done," Stewart said.

"Here's the thing that Congress didn't realize. Here's the thing about auto erotic asphyxiation," he added. "Everybody things that they can pull it off — until they can't."
