Kate Mara channeled her “Fantastic Four” character and stayed invisible in the wake of the movie’s box office failure until recently, when the actress broke her silence and admitted that she hasn’t seen the film yet.
Recently, Mara told British newspaper The Times that reviews of the movie have made her “a little bit gun-shy,” but that she “will eventually” see it.
She also spoke about Josh Trank‘s tweet ahead of the film’s release, in which he wrote, “A year ago I had a fantastic version of the film. And it would’ve received great reviews. You’ll probably never see it. That’s reality though.”
Mara called his outburst “highly disappointing,” but remains adamant that she had a “good time” shooting the film.
“It was a tricky shoot,” she said. “When you know when you’re shooting it that a film isn’t going to be what you want it to be? That was not the case at all.”
“Fantastic Four” has only made $55.3 million domestically since its release on Aug. 7, with a worldwide gross of $160.7 million. This makes it one of the lowest-grossing Marvel comic book adaptations of all time. Moreover, it got a terrible nine-percent review on Rotten Tomatoes and a Cinemascore of C-. Comparably, the first “Fantastic Four,” starring Chris Evans and Jessica Alba, made $154.7 million since its 2005 release, and received a 27 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Currently, a sequel for the film is slated for a 2017 release, but Mara doesn’t seem too idealistic about it actually happening.
“That’s the thing that makes me most bummed because we have no idea if we’ll ever make another one,” she told The Times.
At the Toronto International Film Festival, Mara spoke to MTV News on her uncertainty about a sequel, and that it is “unlikely that it will happen, but I would love to [do one]. I would love to play Sue Storm in a movie that everybody loves. That would be great.”
