Kathy Franklin Tapped to Oversee ‘Avatar’ Franchise

The veteran executive will lead franchise development for James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment

Kathy Franklin better brush up on her Na'vi.

As the newly appointed president of franchise development at James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment, the veteran executive will oversee the branding of "Avatar," the company announced on Tuesday.

“Anticipating the exponential growth of the Avatar universe, we looked for someone who could lead a team that will cement Avatar as a world class brand across all platforms and markets," Cameron said in a statement. "Kathy’s experience, coupled with her drive and vision for what Avatar can be, made her the right choice.”

Keeping the blue-skinned aliens in people's minds will be crucial, because a sequel to the mega-grossing film  won't hit theaters until December 2014.

Franklin will be based at Lightstorm's Santa Monica headquarters.

Franklin was previously the vice president of global studio franchise development for Disney Consumer Products, where she oversaw the Disney Princess, Disney Fairies, Cars and Toy Story franchises.

Prior that, Franklin was vice president of Disney Worldwide Outreach, where she ran marketing and communications for all corporate philanthropic outreach and charitable giving.
