Kirstie Alley found herself unexpectedly drawn into New Jersey governor Chris Christie’s “Bridgegate” scandal on Friday.

After the New York times posted a story with the headline “Christie Ally to Plead Guilty in New Jersey Bridge Closings,” a prankster retweeted the story, but added a picture of Alley.

It quickly began trending as people continued confusing Alley with the real ally, David Wildstein. Wildstein was a Christie appointee who plead guilty to two counts of conspiracy after it was revealed lanes of the George Washington bridge were shut down as apparent payback against a Democratic mayor who refused to endorse Christie.

Though Alley initially denied the accusations, she decided to have some fun with them as well. “Gotta say Im kinda lovin my power right now,” she tweeted. “I can add ‘Major Bridge Closer Downer’ to my resume.”

The New York Times posted a follow-up shortly thereafter, entitled “To Be Clear: Kirstie Alley Not Linked to Bridge Scandal.”
