Laura Ingraham Just Said Child Immigrant Detention Centers Are ‘Essentially Summer Camps’ (Video)

Fox News host defends Trump’s policy of separating immigrant children from parents

A lot of people on both sides of the political aisle are condemning the Trump administration’s policy of separating immigrant children from their parents, especially after the release of video and images showing those children being kept in cages at detention centers on the U.S. border.

But Trump can at least count on the support of Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who defended the policy on her show Monday night, saying that the centers “are essentially summer camps.”

“Well, consistent with American law, when a party is arrested, your children are either sent to relatives, or they become wards of the state. So since more illegal immigrants are rushing the border, more kids are being separated from their parents and being temporarily housed in what are essentially summer camps,” said Ingraham.

On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security released images from inside a detention center showing what looked like people being held in large cages, directly contradicting previous statements by Trump defenders last week that talk of cages was overblown.

In a report Monday, the Associated Press was unequivocal.

“Inside an old warehouse in South Texas, hundreds of children wait away from their parents in a series of cages created by metal fencing. One cage had 20 children inside. Scattered about are bottles of water, bags of chips and large foil sheets intended to serve as blankets,” the AP wrote.

Ingraham’s interesting description of summer camp isn’t the only comment out of Fox News Monday on the subject. Earlier on “Fox & Friends,” co-host Steve Doocy said the cages weren’t cages at all.

“While some have likened it to — them to concentration camps or cages, you do see that they have those thermal blankets, you do see some fencing, but keep in mind — some have referred to them as ‘cages,’ but, keep in mind, this is a great, big warehouse facility where they built walls out of chain link fences,” Doocy said.
