TBS has picked up a new pilot, this time from “Master of None” star Lena Waithe.

“Twenties” tells the story of Hattie, a queer black girl making her way through life with her two straight best friends, Marie and Nia. The single-camera comedy will tackle friendship, finding love, and messing up along the way.

“I wrote Twenties back in 2009,” Waithe said in a press release. “I always wanted to tell a story where a queer black woman was the protagonist and I’m so grateful to TBS for giving me a platform to tell this story. Queer black characters have been the sidekick for long enough, it’s time for us to finally take the lead.”

Waithe recently won an Emmy award for her work on Netflix’s “Master of None,” for the episode “Thanksgiving,” which told her coming out story. Her show “The Chi” has been picked up for a second season on Showtime.

“Twenties” is created, written, and executive produced by Waithe through her production company Hillman Grad Productions. Her manager Andrew Coles also executive produces, with The Mission Entertainment.
