Lucy Lawless has been cast opposite Bruce Campbell in the Starz TV followup to the “Evil Dead” film franchise, “Ash vs. Evil Dead.”
Lawless, best known for her starring role in “Xena: Warrior Princess,” will play the role of mysterious Ruby, who believes Campbell’s Ash is the source of recent “Evil” outbreaks. She joins Campbell, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo and Jill Marie Jones.
“Ash vs. Evil Dead” is not the first Starz series for Lawless. The actress starred as Lucretia on “Spartacus” from 2010 to 2012.
Filming on “Ash vs. Evil Dead” is slated to begin this spring and 10 half-hour episodes premiere on Starz later in 2015. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who also worked on “Xena,” executive produce, and Raimi will direct the first episode, which he cowrote with Ivan Raimi.
