Marc Lamont Hill Slams HuffPost’s Demotion of Donald Trump to Entertainment Section: ‘It Disrespects the Voters’

HuffPost Live host says site’s job isn’t to decide who is and who isn’t a serious candidate

CNN contributor and HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill spoke out about The Huffington Post’s decision to move coverage of Donald Trump to its entertainment section on Tuesday, calling it “disrespectful” and “condescending.”

The website announced Friday it will no longer report on the presidential candidate within its political vertical.

“Our reason is simple: Trump’s campaign is a sideshow,” Washington bureau chief Ryan Grimm and editorial director Danny Shea wrote in an explanation on the site.

Hill disagreed during an appearance on CNN, siding with critics of the decision who say it isn’t HuffPo’s job to decide who is and isn’t a serious candidate.

“Even if he’s not leading the polls, he’s in a national presidential election. He belongs on the politics page,” Hill said.

“I think it disrespects the voters; it’s condescending,” Hill continued. “I think it absolutely does the opposite of what we’re supposed to do in media. We’re not supposed to be picking winners and losers here.”

Trump is currently No. 1 among Republican presidential candidates in a Fox News poll released this week.
