AwesomenessTV has added an array of YouTube stars to its growing MCN (the “ATVNetwork”), including The Janoskians, Austin Mahone, Lia Marie Johnson, Jennxpenn, and JStuStudios.
The most prominent new ATVNetwork stars are The Janoskians, an Austrian “anti-boy band” with three channels and more than 1.4 million subscribers and over 100 million views on YouTube. In conjunction with the network partnership, AwesomenessTV and The Janoskians are launching a new web series (“Janoskian Takeover”), which will follow the band on their first world tour.
AwesomenessTV is producing a couple of original series with other new additions to the ATVNetwork: Austin Mahone and Lia Marie Johnson. “Austin Mahone Takeover” and “Mahomie Madness” offer news and content from the pop star as he tours with Taylor Swift and records his upcoming album. “Terry the Tomboy,” a comedy series starring Lia Marie Johnson, deals with the ups and downs of being a teenage tomboy.
Altogether, these additions raise ATVNetwork’s subscriber numbers to more than 19 million and total view-count to more than 1 billion across more 72,000 channels.
You read that right: Thousand. Which feels like a lot.
But based on what AwesomenessTV wants to do with its version of a MCN, it makes sense. “We’re building a community around creating, curating, and consuming content that is a talent discovery platform and social network powered by YouTube,” said Brian Robbins, founder and CEO of AwesomenessTV in a statement. Or in simple terms, AwesomenessTV wants to help current YouTube stars and future stars grow their audience and monetize their content on YouTube. One of the ways to do that is to promote new content to a large, aggregated audience.
Which is what the company’s ATVNetwork “hub” on YouTube is designed to do — surface new, interesting videos across the network as well as help creators work with each other to build their respective audiences. AwesomenessTV also has series such as “How to Be a YouTube Star,” “News from the Network,” and “Awesomeness TV Presents,” all of which aim to raise the profile of its network stars.
“Activating our network base is a top priority for us,” says CMO Margaret Laney. “We want to empower the AwesomenessTV community to interact and collaborate with each other in addition to our brand. If we get it right, our network becomes both the playground for creators and a powerful, organic marketing tool.”
