Subblime, a new social platform that gives YouTube creators the ability to earn additional revenue by making product recommendations, is making its public debut today.
In the spirit of social recommendations/commerce sites like Fancy, Subblime enables YouTubers to curate lists of their favorite products. When one of their YouTube subscribers joins Subblime, they are instantly “subbscribed” to the creator’s lists and recommendations. These “subbscribers” then have the option to favorite items by clicking “Fave it” or purchase them by clicking “Get it.” Subblime will also give its network of YouTube creators the ability to offer special deals and giveaways to their subscribers. It’s pretty much equally a magazine style guide, shopping center, and taste pinboard.
Subblime will share revenue from sales, sponsorships, and product-driven marketing campaigns on its platform, though the company did not reveal what sort of cut YouTube creators and brands would receive.
The site has signed up several YouTube creators, including co-founder Elle Walker (WhatsUpELLE), who has already published a couple of lists on the platform. Other YouTube creators and media brands publishing lists on the platform include Jess Lizama from Big Frame, Wonderly’s Leviosaa and Kristina Horner, Forefront’s 4YallEntertainment and DECA’s Kin Community.
Walker is joined by serial entrepreneur and angel investor Adam Winnick and Kevin Stone as Subblime’s three co-founders. Winnick is also the company’s CEO. He says Subblime generated “off the chart” click-through rates and engagement during its beta period. This should be good news for the creative community on YouTube, what with recent revelations that YouTube seems to be cutting too deep into their profit margins.
Headquartered in LA, Subblime is a Fall 2012 graduate of MuckerLab, a startup accelerator program in the city. The company’s investors include Brian Lee (ShoeDazzle and LegalZoom) and Jeff Fluhr (Spreecast and StubHub).
