Maker Studios changed the name of their gaming network from The Game Station to Polaris today.
Interestingly enough, YouTube already listed the MCN as Polaris back on July 24, suggesting the shift has been in the works for much longer and might actually be to coordinate with next week’s events (which start Saturday). Vice President and general manager of Polaris Dar Nothaft said of the change, “By re-launching our gaming channel as Polaris, we’ll be able to focus not only on video games, but offer original content that embodies our deep love of pop culture, movies, comics and all things geek.”
One week from today, the newly rebranded MCN will be cohosting Gaming Thursday with Machinima during YouTube’s Geek Week. The two massive MCNs will feature live play-throughs, real-life video games, and new content for game-inspired series; however, the only internal change Maker Studios expressed was that The Game Station Podcast would be change to the Co-Optional Podcast.
Polaris regularly pulls in over one billion views per month through 500 plus channels including PewDiePie, Dodger, The Yogscast, Toby Turner, Jesse Cox, HuskyStarCraft, TotalBiscuit, Day, GameGrumps, Markiplier, and more.
We’re out for updates from Dar — stay tuned for updates later today.
