Aziz Ansari is releasing his next stand-up comedy special, “Buried Alive,” directly on Netflix, according to a report from The New York Times. Ansari is no stranger to “alternative” forms of distribution, having released his most recent special, “Dangerously Delicious,” online via his website and the VHX service.
During Netflix’s Q2 earnings report, the company indicated that it would expand its original slate to include documentary films and stand-up comedy specials. “Buried Alive” will debut on Netflix on November 1, and will be followed by specials from Marc Maron and Kathleen Madigan. The Times also reports that Netflix plans to put a bigger promotional push behind Ansari’s special, which will be labeled a Netflix Original like “House of Cards,” “Orange Is the New Black,” and “Arrested Development” (sort of).
