VEVO will launch in Germany later this year, expanding the music video programmer’s global reach to 13 countries. The platform will offer access to VEVO’s library of 75,000+ music videos, live concerts, and original programming, as well as content from international and local stars. German users will be able to access VEVO via its website, mobile and tablet apps, on the Xbox, and (as recently announced) on Apple TV.
As the Financial Times first reported over the weekend, VEVO’s German launch is happening without YouTube as a partner. In fact, VEVO has struck a deal with German performing rights organization GEMA, which over the years has fought YouTube over music licensing rights.
VEVO Germany will be based in Berlin and will be led by Tina Funk, a music industry veteran in the country.
