“The Sauce Boss” has moved on to gaming. Popular grizzly man Harley Morenstein, best known for creating YouTube’s Epic Meal Time, has launched a new gaming channel titled Original Gamer (OG). Since the channel’s official launch three days ago, Morenstein and longtime collaborator David Heuff have released four “Let’s Play” videos in which the pair play “Grand Theft Auto V” and “Saints Row IV.”
So far OG has racked up 8,000 subscribers, with the “Saints Row” gameplay clip as its most watched video date.
In recent years, gaming channels have become one of the most popular genres on YouTube. With the overwhelming success of channels like PewDiePie, SeaNanners, and Yogscast, thousands have adopted the “Let’s Play” model.
It’s an interesting experiment that Morenstein seems to be unconsciously conducting with Original Gamer. In terms of fanbase, Morenstein has a dedicated audience created solely from his larger than life personality and wildly successful YouTube channel. However, if we were to look at a diagram of gaming fans and fans of Epic Meal Time, the two would, in most cases, share similarities.
Whether Morenstein’s audience will follow him to OG is unknown at this point, but it’s definitely something worth keeping track of.
