Hulu Plus may have finally arrived on Chromecast this week, but it doesn’t look like that will change anything for most users of the streaming stick. According to new research from Parks Associates, among those who watch Hulu on a monthly basis via their Chromecast, roughly 50% are only using “the free services from Hulu.” In other words, roughly half the people who watch Hulu stuff via Chromecast are doing so via the browser on the device, bypassing the screen restrictions that Hulu has placed on its service for people who want to watch its content on a device other than the computer. Will it change now that Hulu Plus is available? Probably not, most people don’t like to pay for something they are used to getting for free.
Hulu and Netflix are popular on Chromecast, though. According to Parks, 34% of Chromecast owners stream video from Hulu on their TV set every day, and 43% do the same with Netflix content. Though, with Chromecast only offering a total of four video apps, that number isn’t all that surprising.
