Mykel Yowman, a former host on BET’s video-countdown show “106 & Park,” is taking her daily Instagram video series to All Def Digital, an urban/comedy/lifestyle YouTube channel from hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and teen-centric multi-channel network AwesomenessTV.
The program, titled “The Tea,” will provide Yowman’s take on trending and relevant news, entertainment, and pop culture stories, and will air every weekday on All Def Digital beginning November 4.
Yowman, who used to go by the name Miss Mykie (she’s now just Mykie), launched her daily Instagram series, also called “The Tea,” after leaving BET and “106 & Park” earlier this year. The Instagram series also focused on providing entertainment and pop culture news and commentary, though in 15-second bursts. To work around that time restriction, Yowman would add commentary in the caption section beneath the videos, which were designed to further engage with her fans.
As with other All Def Digital programming, the show will be produced at AwesomenessTV’s West LA studio. A spokesperson for All Def Digital tells us that the show will feature a quick turnaround time, with Yowman and the crew taping each episode in the morning before releasing it later in the day.
All Def Digital, which launched this past August, is a collaboration between Rush Digital Media, a new-media company founded by Simmons and AwesomenessTV.
