As we previously reported, Uptown Magazine, a luxury/lifestyle rag for affluent African Americans, is the latest print publisher to make a foray into original web video programming. Uptown Media Ventures has officially announced Uptown Unplugged, a new YouTube channel dedicated to original lifestyle content.
Per Len Burnett, co-founder and group publisher of Uptown Magazine, the new channel will offer a mix of original and curated content.
The channel will with Marriott International as presenting sponsor for three original series: “Uptown Studio,” “Uptown ProFiles,” and “The H List.” Most of these and other Uptown shows will be interview-style series, with many being shot at the Uptown Studio located in the Renaissance New York Hotel on 57th Street. Episodes will largely be of the short-form variety, running for approximately 3–5 minutes.
Uptown Unplugged will also look to produce and distribute original and curated branded content. For example, another channel sponsor, Ciroc, will soon distributed branded segments to the channel. Per our original report, Lexus, in addition to Marriott and Ciroc, will be involved in presenting this content.
Uptown Unplugged also features a partnership with Avenue TV, a video portal that will oversee social-media marketing and community-building for Uptown Unplugged content. The portal will also host the Uptown Unplugged YouTube channel.
