PBS Digital Studios has launched a new animated/educational show on its YouTube channel called “The Advanced Apes.” From Cadell Last, an evolutionary anthropologist and science writer, the show will look to provide the historical context around current scientific discoveries and knowledge, all via animated illustrations.
“The Advanced Apes” is written and narrated by Last, and animated and produced by Alicia Herbert, whose animation credits include “Ugly Americans” and “BrickleBerry.”
We’re told that this show came about because Last, who was a fan of other content on PBS Digital Studios’ YouTube channel, reached out to the studio through its Facebook page. He pitched the concept based on a blog he wrote which had the same name.
Last’s work has been featured by Scientific American, The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada, and The Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, among other reputable science institutions.
New episodes of “The Advanced Apes” will roll out on YouTube every other week.
