Vuguru has named Lauren Corrao, the former president of original programming and head of development at Comedy Central, as its new chief creative officer.
Corrao’s hiring coincides with Vuguru’s decision to increase focus on television-length, scripted programming. Per the announcement, Corrao will be responsible for all creative at Vuguru, including new efforts in developing half-hour and hour-long series for multiplatform distribution, as well as the short-form business Vuguru is already known for.
As a longtime programming and development exec at Comedy Central, Corrao oversaw critically-acclaimed and hit series such as “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “South Park.” She was also instrumental in getting “Chappelle’s Show” and “Tosh.0” out to the masses, which you can thank and criticize her for, respectively.
Corrao was also behind Comedy Central’s push into digital, which led to the creation of an in-house production unit called CC:Studios.
Most recently, the longtime TV exec served as president of a Very Good Production, partnering with Ellen DeGeneres to develop and produce shows for Warner Bros.
In short, Corrao has a lot of experience in developing and overseeing successful TV programming, so as Vuguru looks to expand there, it makes it would hire someone like her to steer the ship.
Corrao replaces Kristin Jones, who was ousted by Vuguru in mid-August. She will report to Vuguru CEO Larry Tanz.
