International TV production company Endemol is expanding its digital presence in a big way. The company, which has created multiple smash hit TV shows like “Big Brother” and “Wipeout,” has announced plans to further expand Endemol Beyond, a digital network built around Endemol’s pre-existing web channels.
Backed by a $40 million investment from Endemol, the digital network will create and distribute content across multiple digital platforms, including YouTube, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, and Dailymotion. The substantial investment will also go towards creating original programming, signing talent, and developing branded partnerships.
In a statement about the new network, Endemol Group president Tim Hincks explained that the company plans to “invest in our own creativity and IP to stay innovative.” Additionally, Endemol announced that it will develop “high-end” productions for Endemol Beyond, which will cover genres like comedy, film, and fashion.
Currently, Endemol’s 100 plus digital channels, which primarily operate in Germany, are housed under Endemol Beyond. However, the company hopes to expand its digital footprint into the U.S., U.K., France, Spain, and Italy. Endemol has also expressed a desire to move into additional global “growth markets.”
Endemol Beyond will be overseen by managing director Georg Ramme, who previously helped develop Endemol’s digital efforts in Germany.
