Shibata explained that the YouTube app will require an internet connection to run and will feature the ability to search for videos on the 3DS bottom screen as videos simultaneously play on the upper screen.
The app will come out alongside an update to the Nintendo Wii YouTube app, which will receive significant upgrades to its functionality and navigation controls. Shibata explained: “The YouTube application on Wii U is also receiving an upgrade. This upgrade will greatly improve the interface. Now you will be able to view videos on the Wii U gamepad or search for contents on the gamepad while watching a different video on your television screen.”
No exact date was given for the 3DS YouTube app or the Wii update. However, both are expected to roll out later this month.
