By now you’ve heard about YouTube’s doomed new comment system. It’s been a disaster since jump street, and unlike many of the other unpopular updates Google/YouTube has made in the past, this one doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Users have all but declared martial law and creators are disabling comments faster than you can say “GG YouTube.”
Luckily, salvation is on the horizon from a source I don’t think any of us expected: AdBlock Plus. According the AdBlock Plus blog, the browser extension, which appropriately blocks most AdSense banners, now lets users “selectively remove a good number the things on YouTube that might bug you,” including comments.
Incredibly, AdBlock writes: “Even though hundreds of thousands are campaigning against it, it looks as if their voices will be ignored. There is little hope that it will actually change. But we heard you loud and clear.”
Using the “YouTube Customizer” tool, AdBlock is letting users tune up their YouTube experience with exact specifications. Customizer gives former YouTube fiends the ability to remove the following functions:
– Suggested Videos
– Featured Videos in the Endscreen
– Recommended Videos in the Endscreen
– Sharing tab in the description
– In-Video Annotations
– Related Channels on Channel Pages
– Featured Channels on Channel Pages
– Popular Channels on Channel Pages
– Recommended Channels on the Homepage.
The new extension is totally free and can be downloaded for every major web browser at the AdBlock site here.
