Ray William Johnson and Anna Akana’s five-part web series “Riley Rewind” is set to hit Facebook this morning. The series, which was written by Akana and directed by Johnson, is a sci-fi teen drama produced by the duos’ production company Runaway Machine (formerly Runaway Planet).
Johnson, who took to the about section of the first “Riley Rewind” trailer, explained that the series cost roughly $120,000 to make. It is unclear whether this amount tied into the the production company’s recent deal with Blip, which announced a partnership with Runaway Machine in May.
The series will be offered free because, as Johnson writes: “It’s my first project of this scope. I want you to watch it, and give me constructive feedback, so that I can learn from this experience and the next one will be better.”
Of course, Johnson’s “next one,” which may potentially arrive on Blip could prove to be tricky, as Blip was recently purchased by Maker Studios — Johnson’s former network. Currently, the YouTuber and Maker are in a legal battle over the contents of Johnson’s Adsense account, which he claims Maker refuses to turn over.
“Riley Rewind” will first appear on Johnson’s Facebook page, which the creator explains is due to a “deal with Facebook.” The series will appear on Johnson’s YouTube channel, which has over 10 million subscribers, one day later. We will embed the episode one once it goes live at noon PT.
Update 12/12/2013 12:15 pm PST: Johnson has posted the entire series to his Facebook page in five parts. You can check out part one below.
