Multi-platform production studio Vuguru has inked a deal with Flipps to distribute a couple of its existing original series directly to the TV screen.
Flipps is a cloud-based streaming service that delivers over-the-top content from mobile devices to connected TVs inside the same wireless network. Via the new deal with Vuguru, users can use the Flipps mobile app, which is available on iOS and Android devices, to watch episodes of two of Vuguru’s original series, “Prom Queen” and “Back on Topps.”
This is the first time any of Vuguru’s content is going to be available for “direct-to-TV streaming” on connected TVs and gaming consoles in the US. — as we’ve noted before, the company, which was founded by former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, is astute in how it windows and sells its content domestically and internationally. Flipps currently supports streaming to Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG, Phillips smart TVs, as well as the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Apple TV.
“Prom Queen” was Vuguru’s first web series, having originally aired on Myspace in 2007. The teen thriller follows the lives of several students at a high school that’s plagued by tragedy. The show was produced in partnership with Big Fantastic.
The other program, “Back on Topps,” is a branded sports comedy about a pair of brothers — played by comedians Jason and Randy Sklar — who are heirs to the Topps sports trading cards fortune. The show originally premiered on FoxSports.com and MSN in 2008.
