René Rechtman has been appointed by Maker Studios to the newly created role of president of international. He joins the MCN from AOL, where he was CEO of AOL Be On, the branded entertainment division of AOL Networks.

Netflix Closer to Winning Another Big Award: Oscar
Netflix has won an Emmy and Golden Globe. It’s now one step closer to taking home an Oscar. Netflix received its first Academy Award nomination on Thursday for “The Square,” a documentary it picked up in November from the festival circuit, and starts offering through its streaming service on Friday.
