Endemol North America has hired Jacob Shwirtz to be the chief social officer for Endemol Beyond USA, the company’s division focused on developing original video content and channels for platforms like YouTube, Dailymotion, AOL, MSN, and Yahoo.
At Endemol Beyond USA, Shwirtz will be responsible for leading the social media strategy for the division’s online video content. He has certain experience on this front, having most recently served as the head of social TV at MTV Networks.
Endemol Beyond USA, which was launched by Endemol North America last November, is making a major push in the online space. The global television producer, known for reality hits such as “Big Brother” and “Wipeout,” has pumped $40 million into the digital network, with an eye toward developing new programming and expanding its digital footprint across platforms and international markets.
The division is led by online video veteran and former Maker Studios exec Will Keenan, who came on board as president of Endemol Beyond a week after the division was formed.
Since then, Keenan has been busy, talking with online video companies and creators as he looks to build Endemol Beyond’s portfolio. Currently, it appears Endemol Beyond’s focus is on the comedy and music verticals, with an interesting in developing new IP and partnerships with both traditional talent (like Courtney Love and Pitbull) and online creators (like Chester See).
