AOL continues to build out its video library, inking a syndication deal with Crown Media Family Networks to offer “select” clips from Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel on AOL On. This includes how-to clips from the TV network’s daytime lifestyle show “Home & Family,” as well as “Kitten Bowl” highlights and other content from Hallmark original movies, series, and specials.
The type of content Hallmark produces seems to align well with AOL’s current originals strategy. Based on AOL’s most recent Newfronts slate, the company is placing an emphasis on lifestyle and reality programming. As the company continues to add new content to AOL On, it can ostensibly seed original videos in front of audiences who might be coming to the network to watch TV clips of shows they’re fans of.
The Crown Media deal is similar to the one struck by AOL and ESPN last year, which brought “SportsCenter” highlights to the AOL On Network.
AOL continues to hover near the top of comScore’s monthly charts covering the biggest online video properties in the US. The current AOL On library spans 800,000 videos.
In addition to the deal with AOL, Crown Media also signed a syndication pact with video distribution service Blinkx.
