Prankster Stephen Glover, known to most of you as Steve-O from “Jackass,” is joining the Maker Studios network.
Per the agreement, Maker Studios, which counts more than 350 million subscribers across its network, will now be managing Steve-O’s YouTube channel, which is closing in on 2 million subscribers.
In addition to overseeing channel and audience development, Maker will work with Glover to co-develop original programming “that focuses largely on pranks and stunt videos with a comedic twist” — in other words, what you’re already used to seeing from Steve-O. Maker and Glover will also work together on various “branded content initiatives.”
“I have a gnarly list of ideas and plenty of crazy left in me and it’s going to show in my channel,” said Glover in a statement.
Glover launched his channel four months ago, and has already built it up to nearly 2 million subscribers and more than 16 million views. His most popular video, “50 Cent vs. Steve-O,” has surpassed 2 million views to date.
If anything, Glover’s success on YouTube confirms that there still is an appetite for the type of content he excels at — stupid/comedy pranks and stunts.
“Steve-O was creating massively popular online video before there was online video,” said Chris Williams, chief audience officer at Maker Studios. “Maker already works with popular talent in the prank space such as Magic of Rahat and Just for Laughs. This partnership with Steve-O is another great opportunity to collaborate on entertaining videos fueling his growing success.”
Maker Studios continues to sign channel and content deals with various names from the TV space. This includes the company’s most recent partnership with musician will.i.am to launch a new online video network as well as the deal with Warner Bros.’ Studio 2.0 to launch a new original series from the producers of “Friends” on Nacho Punch.
