Latino MCN MiTu is teaming with Latin America-based Touche Films and Spanish comedy channel Enchufe.TV to create English-language comedy programming for US-based Latino millennials.
Enchufe.TV is one of the most popular Spanish-language comedy channels on YouTube — in fact, one of the most popular channels overall — boasting more than 5.1 million subscribers and over 37 million monthly views on the world’s biggest video site.
Per the deal, MiTu, Touche Films, and Enchufe.TV will work together to develop comedy content across multiple formats. So far, casting is underway for an English-speaking, Latino comedy troupe, which will begin producing new content for MiTu in April.
“We’re wildly excited to be in business with the guys from Enchufe.tv, who are comedic pioneers in the digital space. While most of Latin America is familiar with their hilarious, professionally polished web shorts, we’re thrilled to help introduce their madcap cast of characters and outrageous sketch comedy to American audiences,” said Doug Greiff, MiTu co-founder and chief creative officer, in a statement.
Launched by Greiff, Beatriz Acevedo, and Roy Burstin, three longtime Latino TV veterans, the MiTu Network claims a global viewership of 65 million uniques per month. The network manages an array of Latino creators and also produces and distributes programming within various lifestyle categories like beauty, food, DIY, home, and health.
Backers in MiTu include The Chernin Group, Machinima chairman and CEO Allen DeBevoise*, and Shari Redstone and Jason Ostheimer’s Advancit Capital, among others.
* Allen DeBevoise is also an investor in VideoInk.
