The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present its annual Pioneer Prize to YouTube for the platform’s “innovative contributions to the field of digital entertainment.” YouTube’s head of entertainment, Alex Carloss, will accept the prize.
The Academy also unveiled the nominees for the 2014 International Digital Emmy Awards, which will be held on Monday, April 7, during MIPTV in Cannes. The nominees, which are listed in full below, are recognized across three main programming categories: Children & Young People, Fiction, and Non-Fiction.
“This year’s nominated programs represent every inhabited continent on earth,” said International Academy president and CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “How fitting that we are presenting our 2014 Pioneer Prize to YouTube, a major agent of growth and distribution of digital content throughout the world since its creation in 2005.”
All nominated series will also be showcased at MIPCube, which will give MIPTV attendees the chance to see excerpts of the shows and connect with the creators.
