If you plan to shut down an entire cable channel in an effort to resurrect it as something completely new, chances are that doesn’t bode well for that channel’s website.
And so it goes with Bio.com, the online offshoot of A+E Network’s soon-to-be-rebranded Bio channel. A+E is handing over all editorial, sales, tech, and marketing responsibilities for Bio.com and sister site LifetimeMoms.com to Say Media, a digital-only publisher that owns and/or oversees sites like ReadWrite, Fashionista, and Honestly WTF.
A+E isn’t completely wiping its hands clean of Bio, though. As part of the agreement with Say Media, A+E will continue to produce original short-form video content for both websites — more than a 100 every year. Both companies will share revenues derived from ads sold against the videos and the sites.
Not much is changing editorially, except that Bio.com and Lifetime.com editors-in-chief, Laura Grimm and Melissa Kagan, respectively, now report to Say Media’s executive editorial director Joyce Bautista Ferrari. They will join the Say Media team on April 1.
FYI Network, the new cable channel set to replace Bio, will launch this summer with programming that includes, among other shows, an cooking series produced by and featuring “Epic Meal Time.”
