Vuguru, the independent studio founded by former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, is releasing its feature-length film “The Millionaire Tour” on Hulu and Hulu Plus — the first time the film has been made available in the US.
Starring Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”), the action-thriller tells the story of a traveling salesman in Latin America who’s taken hostage in a taxi and forced to drain his savings account. He then has to convince his his hijackers that he is not the person they’re looking for — though that might just be a clever act of deception.
Alongside Monaghan in the lead role, the film stars Rick Gomez (“Justified”), Jordan Belfi (“Entourage”), Agnes Bruckner (“Blood & Chocolate”), and Bruce Davison (“X-Men”). The film is written by Natalie Shampanier and Inon Shampanier, who also directed.
“We received an incredible response from ‘The Millionaire Tour’ launch internationally, and we are extremely excited for its domestic release.” said Larry Tanz, CEO of Vuguru, in a statement. Part of Vuguru’s business model is determining the best distribution windows, internationally and domestically, for its programming. As the studio ventures into longer-form programming, it seems that strategy hasn’t changed.
This is not the first Vuguru-produced content to show up on Hulu. The studio has partnered with the VOD platform on critically-acclaimed fare like “The Booth at the End.”
The film originally premiered in international markets in 2012. Here’s the trailer:
