Why are conferences like Playlist Live important? In terms of your relationship with your fans and/or in terms of what you do as a business?
Charles Lincoln “Link” Neal (Rhett & Link):
“When we sit down to film an episode of ‘Good Mythical Morning,’ it’s sometimes difficult to stare into that lens and know who’s on the other side. We always try to ‘speak to the lens’ as if we are talking to one person, one fan. And events like Playlist live really help us know who we’re talking to on a daily basis in a way that reading comments just can’t accomplish.”
“Conferences like Playlist Live are important to me because I love putting faces to the people watching. Being cooped up in my office making videos with no one reacting feels a bit lonely. 🙁 And it’s a good reminder that these are real people not just view numbers. Also, being in Chicago I don’t often get to hang out with other people in this industry and I really like taking the opportunity to talk with other creators. It’s a great time to set up some collaborations. Also, the weather is way better in Orlando right now.”
“These conferences are important because you get to have human conversations/interaction both with your colleagues and your audience. It’s always inspiring to hear what your ‘co-workers’ are working on and what your audience has resonated with in terms of your own work. I always leave tired and inspired.”
“For me, meeting the people who watch my videos is a really special experience. I’m sure you heard that from every performer. At least I hope you do. I’ve had people from all over the world show up and tell me they watch my video. Meeting people face to face, hearing their stories, speaking WITH them instead of at them…it’s all pretty wonderful. It’s also a great opportunity to thank them for what they have done for me.”
“I think conferences likes Playlist and others are extremely important for your relationship with both fans and brands because it allows fans to talk to us face-to-face and meet who they’ve been watching. In terms of brands, it sometimes allows them to talk to us about business opportunities, changing times, and it helps them to realize we are actually operating at a high professional level. Many times it also allows for more traditional companies to ‘open their eyes’ in the possibilities of online marketing!”
