VEVO has struck a distribution deal to bring its entire library of music-video content to Yahoo Screen. Per the deal, Yahoo Screen users will be able to access more than 100,000 HD music videos, VEVO’s live concert events, and original programming.
Right now, users in the US and Canada can access VEVO content via a custom channel on Yahoo Screen. In the coming weeks, the two companies will expand the availability of VEVO content to the UK, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy, as well as the Yahoo Screen mobile app.
This builds on an existing deal between VEVO and Yahoo, which previously syndicated the company’s programming via Yahoo Music.
For Yahoo, this deal obviously brings an immense library of premium content to Yahoo Screen. It’s even more interesting in the context of recent reports that the company is potentially working on building a viable premium video competitor to YouTube. If, as the reports have said, Yahoo envisions Yahoo Screen as a competitive offering to YouTube, then having one of YouTube’s biggest content providers on board seems matter-of-fact.
