Vevo has upgraded the design and functionality of its iOS app to surface more content options to users.
The company has introduced a new real-time video feed, which routinely updates with the latest music video premieres, Vevo original programming, and videos of live concert performances. An optimized browse section now allows users to filter content by their favorite music genres, as well as watch custom-made and Vevo-curated playlists.
App users in the US and Canada will also have access to three channels on Vevo TV, the company’s collection of linear-style music video channels for pop music (Hits), rap and R&B (Flow), and country (Nashville). No word yet on when the three channels will be available in other markets where the new iOS app can be downloaded, including Australia, Brazil, France, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, and the UK. German users, though, can still access the international Vevo TV channel.
Other updates to the app include a new mini-player that allows users to watch content while they’re browsing, as well as the ability to watch playlists in shuffle mode.
The update is architected on the iOS software development kit released by Vevo during SXSW. The SDK is also being used to eventually make it possible for Vevo content to show up on third-party apps. Partners will be announced soon, said Vevo in a blog post.
