Set to premier in May 2015, “Pixels,” starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James, has an unexpected origin. Remember that 2-minute YouTube video (originally featured on Dailymotion) that went viral after its April, 2010 post date? The one where 8-bit creatures, like Pac Man and Tetris blocks, destroy New York City? Well, that video by Patrick Jean serves as the inspiration for Sandler and James’ future film.
Sony Pictures announced the movie’s release date, when the public will get to see James play U.S. president to Sandler’s “childhood friend” role. The two will take on the likes of Pac Man to save this fair planet. “Pixels” is set to start shooting next month, with Chris Columbus, director of the first two “Harry Potter” movies, directing and producing through 1492 Pictures. Sandler will also produce via the Happy Madison production company.
