Jason Silva’s presentation at DigitasLBi Newfronts fully embodied the Fearless theme. His engagement with the audience and understanding of the human brain analyzed media buyers in a completely new way. After his presentation, we talked with him about fear and converting media buyers.
Silva explained fear firing up the amygdala and generating fight or flight disruption. This inherited human reaction translates into modern times and applies to media disruption. We have “a chance to reinvent business models, reinvent our creativity, reinvent storytelling, and today the name of the game is content”. He continued, “It doesn’t matter where it lives, if the content is good, people will find it”. Silva advocated playing and experimenting with this opportunity because great things happen when people manage to rid themselves of fear.
Marshall McLuhan’s infamous analysis that “the medium is the message” resonates strongly with Silva. When talking to media buyers and converting them into the digital space, he attempts to trade people in the currency of inspiration. Silva said, “People respond to passion. People respond to authenticity. People respond to what moves them.” Thus, he encourages inspiring people to expand their minds and excite them. He emphasized brands putting their name on dazzling content to reap the maximum possible benefits.
Silva’s most recent and upcoming projects include Brain Games, the TV channel on National Geographic, and “Shots of Awe,” which generates new videos every two weeks on the YouTube channel.
