Nearly two months after announcing that it will be the first to distribute a live-action web series produced by Capcom based on the game-maker’s hit “Street Fighter” franchise, Machinima has set the show’s release date.
“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” will premiere in its entirety on May 23.
The series tells the story of Ken and Ryu, brothers and most popular characters of the video-game franchise on which the show is based. A coming-of-age tale, the show will follow the brothers as they learn about the mysterious past of their master, Goken. Along the way, viewers will be introduced to other popular characters from the “Street Fighter” universe, including Goki, Senzo, and Mr. Masters.
“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” is inspired by a popular fan film from Joey Ansah, an actor who’s appeared in movies like “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Ansah is back for the series as co-writer and actor, reprising his role as Akuma. Christian Howard, the other co-writer, also returns as Ken Masters. Other cast members include Togo Igawa (“47 Ronin”) and Mark Killeen (“The Dark Knight Rises”).
Produced by Assassin’s Fist Limited in association with Lonely Rock Productions, Gloucester Films, Capcom USA, and Evropa Film, “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” will be distributed by Content Media.
Honda has struck a deal to sponsor the show, promoting its Honda Fit line.
