Jukin Media has raised its first round of financing: $1 million from a group of investors that includes Maker Studios, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, Launchpad LA, and LA-based angels including Richard Wolpert, the former president of Disney Online, and Brad Zions, the former director of AOL International.

TV From the Cloud: Which Device Is Best for You?
Video from the cloud has settled in on big TVs, and it’s here to stay. At our house, we care just as much about what’s happening on “House of Cards” on Netflix as we do about that other popular political thriller, “Scandal,” from traditional network ABC. And we’ll sometimes spend night after night on online services watching years of canceled series we missed in their original runs, instead of fresh episodes of current series offered from the networks.

Done Deal: Disney Finishes $500 Million Maker Studios Acquisition
Disney has closed its previously announced deal to buy Maker Studios, the company said. Disney paid $500 million for the YouTube network, and may end up spending up to $450 million more, depending on the company’s performance. Last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger described Maker as “first and foremost … a successful distribution platform.”

Toby Turner can now add “author” to his resume. The YouTube actor, musician and comedian has just signed a three-book deal with Katherine Tegan Books (an imprint of HarperCollins) to bring his web series “Tobuscus Adventures” to life in a cheeky, illustrated book series. Readers can expect journal-style entries in book format that chronicle the misadventures of Tobuscus, a child trapped in a man’s body.
Lindsey Stirling, John Legend, Postmodern JukeBox Tapped For Free Kennedy Center YouTube Performance
Lindsey Stirling, Scott Bradlee (of Postmodern Jukebox) and others are gearing up for one of the coolest concerts in YouTube this year. Called “YouTube OnStage Live from the Kennedy Center,” the show will be a May 28 one-time performance from some of YouTube’s biggest acts and performers — and the best part of all? The show is completely free. It’s also in Washington D.C. and expected to draw capacity crowds to the 2,200-seat theatre. But don’t worry — this is YouTube after all, and so the concert will also be available online.

“Tabletop,” Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day’s popular web series, raised $1.4 million for its third season on Indiegogo, setting a new record for a crowdfunded web series, the principals said Monday. The show broke the mark set by Freddie Wong, who raised $898,144 for the third season for his hit show “Game High School.”

Indonesia Bans Video Sharing Site for Nudity
Indonesia banned the popular video sharing site Vimeo, saying it contains nudity, which officials in the world’s most populous Muslim country consider to be pornographic material. Information and Communication Minister Tiffatul Sembiring said in a statement Monday that he made the decision after receiving complaints from the public.
