Director Joe Swanberg (“Drinking Buddies”) and Magnolia Pictures are bringing their quirky holiday comedy “Happy Christmas” to the big screen on July 25. But first, the film will be made available on iTunes a full month prior (June 26) to its theatrical release.
The film made its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it generated buzz for its relatable soul-searching story as well as a cast that’s headlined by Anna Kendrick (“Pitch Perfect”) and Lena Dunham (“Girls”).
Written, directed, and produced by Swanberg, who also appears in the film, “Happy Christmas” tells the story of a young woman named Jenny (Anna Kendrick) who shacks up with her brother and his wife after a messy break-up. While the couple hopes that the extra set of hands around the home for the holidays will be helpful, Jenny, along with her friend Carson (Dunham) prove to be as needy as the couple’s two-year-old son. Hilarity and coming-of-age ensue.
